Our regular celebration of the sacrament of communion is intentional. It was clearly the practice of the Apostles and the early Church to share communion every time they gathered. Yet, for various historic reasons, the practice of communion has been diminished in the last few hundred years - in some cases reduced to quarterly, or sometimes just twice a year.
We at Emmaus Road Mennonite Fellowship choose to celebrate communion regularly not only because it is a Biblical pattern, but also because it is central to our identity as God's family to share this meal together. This means that central to our regular worship is a reminder of the Gospel and a tangible act of our unity as the family of God. As to whether communion loses meaning by regular celebration, most of us find just the opposite. We find this regular act of fellowship with our Lord Jesus and His people to be increasingly important to our spiritual lives.
Why do we have regular communion?
